Throughout my time at Winthrop University, I have completed a great deal of coursework, both individually and in groups, that I feel has helped shape my skills as a creative professional. The coursework includes everything from SWOT analyses, ethnography reports, posters, slogans, and so on.
Below are examples of some of my favorite projects. |
Department of Mass Communication Promotional Video
For an Advertising Copy and Layout class that I took, the professor asked us to create a promotional video for the Department of Mass Communication at Winthrop University. While most groups chose to conduct interviews of department members and students, my group chose to take a more exciting approach to showcase all of the paths a student could follow during their journey with the department. We chose to show rather than tell. Below is the final video we created.
Volkswagen Crisis Communication
In 2015, Volkswagen was caught for their unethical actions to cheat emission tests in their "eco-friendly" vehicles. You probably heard all about it on the news or from a friend you owned a Volkswagen. Not only was this traumatic for VW owners, but also called largely on strong crisis communication from the company. In an advanced Public Relations Principles class, my professor asked our groups to create numerous written works and a presentation to discuss the crisis, how it was handled, and give suggestions for how they could correct their poor crisis communication. Below are the written pieces and presentation that my group created.
Winthrop University Slogan
In 2017, Winthrop University began taking steps to initiating a full rebranding process. Since unveiling their new logo and website during the last academic year, they are trying to finalize that rebranding process. One of the main components they are still missing is a slogan. Upon hearing this dilemma, my professor introduced the project to us in her Advertising Copy and Layout class. After about a month of working with our groups to create slogans and posters, we were then able to present our work to the university's Marketing Department. Below are the posters that my group created, along with the presentation that we showed the department.
Department of Mass Communication Promotional Pieces
For an Advertising Copy and Layout class that I took, the professor asked us to create two posters and a tri-fold that could be used by the department at college fairs to help attract high school students to our department. The Department of Mass Communications has four sectors: Broadcast Media, Print Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communications, and a Digital Mass Media track (exclusively for Digital Information Design majors). Our groups task was to capture what made each department so special, while maintaining a common theme to unify the set. Our group chose to embody the idea that our department is the "key" to communication careers. Below are examples of both of the posters and the tri-fold we created.
Starbucks Ethnography and SWOT Analysis
In one of my entry level courses, I was asked to complete an ethnography report on a local business with the help of a group of peers. My group chose to complete this assignment on the Starbucks located on our campus. Below is the finalized ethnography report and SWOT analysis presentation from the project.
